FASP Research Awards (Proposal Guidelines)

The Florida Association of School Psychologists (FASP) is pleased to announce our annual Research Awards to support FASP student members in their research related to the practice of school psychology in Florida.

Research Award
The Research Award is designed to encourage and support the research activities of FASP student
members. Any area of research related to the practice of school psychology in Florida may be
supported by the FASP Research Award. Special consideration will be given to projects addressing
comprehensive service delivery systems in keeping with the NASP Practice Model (e.g., consultation
and collaboration, data-based decision making, school-wide practices to promote learning, etc.).

Dr. Tom Oakland Research Award
The Dr. Tom Oakland Research Award is given to honor the memory and
contributions of this school psychology legend. Dr. Oakland, a long-time
professor of school psychology at the University of Florida, dedicated much of
his life’s work to expanding the field of school psychology across the world. His
work focused largely on the understanding of those from diverse backgrounds.
This research award is designed to support the work of FASP student members
interested in conducting research in one of three main areas: 1. school
psychology-related topics in an international or intercultural context, 2. diversity
issues, or 3. issues related to social justice.

A Special Note of Thanks

FASP Research Policies and Procedures
FASP encourages school psychologists to participate in research to increase the knowledge base about the practice of school psychologists in the state of Florida.

When the FASP Executive Board is asked to endorse a survey emailed to school psychologists, and/or when a researcher requests access to the FASP Membership Database, the survey must be approved by the Research Committee and the FASP Executive Board. Due to the high volume of requests to access FASP membership in recent years and to respect the valuable time of our members, the Executive Board has approved adopting a competitive review process of proposals to conduct research with FASP members. Each review period, the top 1-2 applications will be approved by the Board.

Proposals will be accepted year-round. Four times per year, proposals will be considered by the Research Committee and Executive Board:

  • January 1st
  • April 1st
  • July 1st
  • October 1st

Proposals will be evaluated according to the study’s relevance to school psychology, timeliness, significance to the field, appropriateness, and consistency with the current focus of FASP and ethical guidelines for our profession.

Prior to Consideration:
Before the Research Committee can consider a request for access to the database, a copy of the Researcher's Request to Access the FASP Membership Database (see below) must be submitted. Additionally, we must receive a copy of the IRB approval, a copy of the email introduction that would be sent to potential participants, and a PDF copy of the survey. FASP policy prohibits releasing the email addresses of its members without express consent.
